Rome was a whirlwind of 3 days. We hiked the entire city several times and were putting in 6-8 hour days of walking! There was so much to see and we really enjoyed all we could manage. One major disappointment though was the food. Mediocre at best. I was really bummed out cuz we had had such great food up until this point. Perhaps it was because we were mostly going to the touristy restaurants, but even when we went to the non-touristy ones we weren't impressed. I guess we should have asked around but we were so on the go the entire time that we were just happy for food!
Our favorite spots were the colosseum, the ancient ruins and all the little piazzas:
Our trip back home was supper easy, other than the way too early 6 am flight out. We went from Rome to Amsterdam then had about 30 minutes to make our flight from Amsterdam to SFO. This part sucked cuz I needed to stop and stock up on food for the flight because of my tomato allergy, luckily there was a grab & fly right next to our gate. Unfortunately I had also wanted to purchase some pre packed Belgian waffles to bring home but Ana was worried that we'd miss our flight so no go:-( Once we arrived home, after picking up sienna from the kennel, and eating out a few times on the trip home from the airport, we were out for a good 2 more days just recovering from a 50 hour stint with only 3 hours sleep. And it was good to finally be home!
All in all, our trip to Italy was the best thing ever that we could have done before the arrival of Baby Flores. It was the most romantic, hectic, beautiful and amazing relationship bonding for Ana and me. We've really gotten a lot closer (if you can imagine) in the last 5 months than in our past 5 years and this trip really extended that closeness to a whole other level. We've come back ready to face our next challenges, to get ready for house & baby. And even better, we're ready to face them together!
