Yesterday was my first swim at the Simpkins Family Pool in Santa Cruz. After two failed attempts at making their open swim hours (totally my fault in reading the schedule wrong;-) I finally got in yesterday afternoon.
I don't know why but I was nervous. I bought a kickboard and a new bathing suit (with room to expand). Luckily I put sunscreen on my face in the am cuz I forgot to put any on when I went to the pool. Also, I didn't have goggles and it was a bright, bright sunshiny day, so I closed my eyes a lot during the swim.
Still being nervous, I used the kickboard the entire time. I did 20 laps of the 50 meter pool and halfway through another preggers mom joined my lane. She had on a regular cap visor, which I thought was smart for the sun. Actually when I looked around, there were a lot of preggers momas in the pool!
It was really nice to have the feeling of weightlessness, even though I've only gained 6 pounds, it felt good to have the belly floating. Glad I bought a 20 swim pass cuz this will be great for me in the months to come!
One thing I forgot about swimming, though, is how hungry you get afterwards! And I was swimming so slow, it didn't really feel like I was burning any calories during my swim! I had to go straight to traders joes and get some grub!
Anyone want to join me anytime after 9 am for a swim, just give me a ring!!!
